COVID-19 Response Plan
Standard Operating Procedure
Keeping our communities, our homes and our places of work safe.
Purpose: To ensure safe working practices and conditions related to the COVID-19 virus and to minimize risks associated with virus transmission.
Peak Services and COVID-19
Peak Services, in co-operation with workers, is responsible for the designs, implementation, and monitoring of our health and safety program. Every employee and sub-contractor employee must sign and acknowledge that they are aware of their roles and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations as well as the new laws & regulations set out by the provincial government regarding the outbreak of COVID-19. All supervisors and workers will receive training about their respective health and safety responsibilities and will be individually accountable for fulfilling those responsibilities.
- OHSA - All staff are required to strictly follow the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Hand Sanitizer - sanitizer is to contain 60% to 70% isopropyl alcohol. Soap can be provided where running water available.
- Personal Protective Equipment - Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses.
On-Site Policies for Peak Workers
Face Masks
Peak staff must wear a face mask at all times on site
Hand Sanitizer
Peak staff must sanitize hands and carry extra sanitizer
Work Gloves
Peak staff must wear work gloves at all times on site
Hand Washing
Peak staff must wash their hands frequently and thoroughly
Soap and Cleaning Agents
Peak staff will sanitize any area they work in before and after they work
Government Regulations
Peak Staff must follow all government health regulations for the area they are in
Roles, Responsibilities & Procedures
Sub-Contractors
Sub-Contractors are responsible for providing their own PPE’s to their workers. Sub-Contractor shall ensure there are enough tools on site (as is practical) to minimize sharing, ensure cleansing instructions at the toolboxes where hand tools are stored, and recommend daily cleansing of unshared tools and regular cleansing of shared tools immediately after use throughout the day, and at the start of the day before use. Also, any cleaning products to be used on shall have MSDSs (Material Safety Data Sheets).
Workers
Workers are responsible for abiding by this procedure and using equipment and materials provided. While implementing social distancing practices on site, these are not to be undertaken in a manner that will contravene any other safe working practices. Every worker shall follow safe work practices and procedures established by the company’s Health & Safety Manual and working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations as well as the new laws & regulations set out by the provincial government regarding the outbreak of COVID-19. All workers must report all unsafe or unhealthy conditions to their supervisors or management as soon as they are observed.
Visiting & Working on Site
Site Supervisor will ensure that all people visiting the site have read the procedures and signed the “COVID-19 Assessment Visitor” form before entering the site, and all workers have proper PPE’s required. Workers should attend COVID-19 orientation on site prior to start work.
Communication and
Awareness
Clear signage shall be posted at site entry points and various locations to maintain health & safety measures during COVID-19 crisis. Peak Services and all staff are expected to ensure all health and safety policies including these COVID-19 policies are updated, communicated and posted to all personnel involved on a project as mandated and/or required.
Tasks
Site Supervisor will identify whether each task can be performed by a single employee, and if not, what type of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is needed to assure the safety of all employees. If necessary, photos of the hazard analysis can be taken with an iPad or smartphone and sent via email or text message. Confined spaces will be evaluated for maximum occupancy and to determine how to maintain physical distancing.
Meetings
Meetings should be performed where possible, online or via conference call. If in-person meetings are necessary physical distancing practices will be followed and groups will be limited to no more than 5 people. It will be made sure everyone is at least 2m (6 ft.) apart. Sharing personal items must be avoided (i.e. pens, pencils, passing documentation, etc.).
Sanitation & Hygiene
Sanitation & Hygiene High-touch surfaces, such as countertops, doorknobs, cellphones and toilet flush handles to be disinfected daily since some pathogens can live on surfaces for several hours or days. Use of products that say “disinfectant” on the label. Disinfectant needs to remain on the surface before it dries or is wiped off. All washrooms are to be cleaned as frequently as possible and record to be maintained. Additional sanitary measures (depending upon site conditions) shall be implemented on site: hand washing stations, hand sanitizer stations, provision of disinfectant wiping products, etc. These types of facilities shall be made available at site entries, exits, washrooms, eating areas, offices, and any other areas with commonly touched surfaces as needed at the discretion of Site Supervisor.
Scheduling
Scheduling Work schedules could be modified by staggering shifts or offering alternate days of work or dedicated shifts can reduce the number of workers on a site at any time. Breaks should also be scheduled to reduce interactions. Work schedules shall be adjusted to provide time for proper cleaning and disinfecting as required.
Site Logistics Deliveries
Site Logistics Deliveries to the site to be carefully planned with contact and cleaning protocols:
· Specific areas should be identified as laydown areas for deliveries.
· Lines should be placed to limit the areas for gang boxes and material sources.
· Jersey barriers can be placed to separate workers from delivery locations.
· Trash should be kept in specific locations where it can easily be transported from the site. Delivery personnel should remain in their vehicles when possible and have minimal contact with site workers.
Evaluation/Protocol Auditing
Peak Services shall follow-up and evaluate periodically to ensure the effectiveness of policies and controls implemented.
Response in Event of Site Contamination
· Notification of the situation shall be provided via phone call and email to all employees, trade representatives and project owners as soon as possible.
· Remove employee from workplace and determine duration of potential contamination, to the extent possible.
· Identify employees in direct contact and employee’s whereabouts during period of contamination.
· Request employees who had direct contact with affected employee to self isolate to ensure minimum 14 days period without symptoms.
· Ensure safe & secure office/site evacuation and shutdown, if required.
· Identify tools and equipment that the potentially affected worker had recently been using and arrange decontamination.
· Arrange for disinfection of impacted workplace.
· Report any known positive test results for COVID-19 to: The Ministry (in writing) within four days & The joint health and safety representative.
General Instructions
Coronaviruses are spread through close contact, including at work. Here are some helpful tips to help prevent the spread of germs, employees will be advised to:
· Wash hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
· Sneeze and cough into their sleeve.
· If using a tissue, discard immediately and wash hands afterward.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
· Avoid contact with people who are sick.
· Stay home if you are sick.
· Avoid high-touch areas, where possible, or ensure you clean your hands after.
· Where possible, wear gloves when interacting with high-touch areas. Do not touch your face with gloved hands. Take care when removing gloves. Ensure you wash your hands after removing them.
· Wash your clothes as soon as you get home. · If you are ill: notify your supervisor immediately and follow the instructions, you get.
· Refrain from sharing cups, pens, pencils, plan-sets, tablets, laptops, tools, or any other items that may carry germs.
· No toolbox talks or gatherings in the jobsite trailers.
· Avoid handshakes and close contact with team members, and always wash and sanitize your hands following any contact. Maintain 2m (6 ft.) of separation as much as possible.
· Use Face masks if its un-avoidable to maintain 2m (6 ft.) distance.
